JAMMU: The government plans outsourcing accommodation and sanitation in all tourism development authorities (TDAs) of the state, while initiating a slew of measures over the next six years to increase tourist footfall.
The government will lay out golf courses at Sonamarg and Yusmarg, an official spokesman said on Saturday. The work on Ashmuqam cable car project and Jammu Ropeway will also start, he added.
The government will also prepare a feasibility report of a cable car project in Yusmarg and outsourcing accommodation and sanitation in all tourism development authorities (TDAs) of the state. It has also directed chief executive officers of Gulmarg and Pahalgam development authorities to take over administrative control of their respective golf courses.
This was decided at a meeting, where the heads of Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Yusmarg, Aharbal, Verinag, Kokernag and Lolab tourism development authorities and J&K Cable Car Corporation provided chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed a peep into the functioning of these bodies.
Mufti asked commissioner/secretary tourism to provide uninterrupted power supply to Pahalgam by de-linking it from the main grid.
“This will also facilitate the pilgrims who visit the place during the Amarnath Yatra,” he said. The CM also asked officials to immediately outsource Pahalgam Shopping Complex comprising 80 shops.
Sayeed stressed on the need for tapping the state’s tourism potential by providing accessibility to new destinations and creating high-end infrastructure at the existing ones.
He also called for aggressive marketing at the national and international levels to promote the state as an ideal tourist destination.
“Our economy will improve if we succeed in attracting high-end travellers who have greater spending power,” he said.
The CM directed TDAs to procure garbage dumpers for proper waste disposal.
