Opposition corners govt over Kathua attack

JAMMU: Congress MLCs were marshalled out from the Legislative Council amid uproar by the opposition over the Kathua attack.
Shouting slogans, Congress MLCs led by Ravinder Sharma jumped into the well of the house and sought an explanation from the government over the attack .
Members of other opposition parties also raised the issue.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh while replying to a query over the issue informed the House that two or three heavily-armed militants managed to enter the Rajpora Police station in Kathua and were holed up in the police station.
“The armed forces have cordoned off the area and heavy firing is going on. A man has died and we are not sure about his identification. Ten people have been injured which include two policemen, seven CRPF men while one civilian and a policeman have been seriously injured,” Dy CM informed the Upper House and added, “Senior officers are on the spot as the area has been cordoned off and heavy firing is going on. A body is lying at a distance and amidst heavy firing it is not possible to reach there to ascertain the identity of the person who have lost his life in the incident.
But the NC and Congress MLCs were adamant on their demand and informed the House that they were not satisfied with the reply. The opposition members continued raising their protest against the PDP-BJP coalition government for misleading the House due to lack of information about the incident.
After observing the disturbance in the House proceedings and several pleas to the protesting MLCs to call off their protest, LC Chairman Amrit Malhotra directed them to be marshalled out from House.
Earlier, Ravinder Sharman, Jugal Kishore, Naresh Gupta, Sajjad Kichloo, Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Dr AR Veeri, Jehangir Mir and other opposition members said, “The government doesn’t know that the man who has died can be either a civilian or CRPF personnel. People are dying and you have no information. The government should have the information.”
