Women’s death sparks protests in Baramulla

Baramulla: Scores of people Thursday held protests in main town here after a woman succumbed to severe burn injuries she allegedly suffered at the hands of her in-laws.
Reports said that said that a 26-years- old female Shugufta daughter of Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Janbazpora was shifted to district hospital Baramulla after she was found burnt at in her in-laws in Kanlibagh area.
The doctors immediately referred her to Srinagar for treatment, where she succumbed to the injuries.
On Thursday as the news spread in the area, people from Janbazpora took to streets and staged protest against the in-laws of the deceased woman.
The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of her husband and her mother-in-law.
Talking to media persons outside the DC office father of deceased woman, Ghulam Mohammad Mir said that he received a phone that his daughter was shifted to hospital as she has received severe burn injuries.
“I reached the hospital where doctors referred her to Srinagar. She passed away on late Wednesday night.”
He alleged that the husband and the mother-in-law of the deceased were involved in the murder of his daughter.
“At the Srinagar hospital, my daughter told me that her mother-in-law and other relatives tied her and set her on fire,” he alleged.
Station House Officer (SHO) Baramulla Ayaz Ahmad Geelani said that police has received a complaint in this regard on Wednesday; however, they were not able to record her statements as she was shifted to Sringar for treatment.
He said police has registered a case under FIR 47 of 2015 and have started the investigation.
