SRINAGAR: Minister for Agriculture Production Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura Thursday said the development of tourist spots in the state, including in Jammu, is being given “focused attention” by way of creation of tourism-related infrastructure.
He was replying to a question by Charanjit Singh on behalf of Minister for Tourism in Legislative Council.
The “related activities”, he said, are being carried out through the Directorate of Tourism, JKTDC and seven Tourism Development Authorities functioning in Jammu division.
With regard to the infrastructure being created under State Plan/Central financial assistance, Hanjura said the construction of TRCs, budgeted accommodation, and way side facilities are included for convenience of the public visiting the tourist destinations.
“Various steps for attracting tourists are being taken through publicity by way of advertisements, brochures, Travel Fairs and Marts (within and outside the Country) Festivals, Cultural Programmes,” he added. In order to facilitate better inflow of tourists at Surinsar and Mansar lakes, the places are being developed by providing better facilities at Dak Bunglow, View Points and additional attractions like joy rides , and swings, he said, adding that installation of High Mast, Sodium Lights, and development of Tile Walkways around the lakes has also been taken up.
In response to queries raised by Charanjeet Singh and Vibod Gupta, he said the development of tourist spots at various new destinations are being taken up by the government, assuring that developing Gharana Wetland as a tourist destination will also be considered.
With regard to steps taken on the development of artificial lake at river Tawi, the Minister said the project “Construction of Barrage” across the river Tawi is being carried out.
