Absence of PP at Bl’a sessions court prolonging detention of youth: Hurriyat (G)

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Wednesday said that the absence of absence of Public Prosecutor (PP) Baramulla from his duty was preventing the release of scores of youth.

In a statement, a party spokesman said that from past many months the PP has not attended his duty at the Baramulla Sessions court.

“From past five months, the PP is absent from his duty which has led to the prolonging of detention of scores of youth. We have decided to go for the legal remedy against it.”

The spokesman alleged that it was a plot to pro-long the detention of all those youths “who have been booked under fabricated in false and baseless cases and their trial is going on in the Baramulla Sessions court.”

“The detainees leave the jails for attending the court hearings but later they return disappointed because the judge doesn’t hear any case due to the absence of the PP,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said that the issue was many times brought into the notice of the said court but no action has been taken so far.

“There are more than 70 cases going on in this court against those youths who were detained on mere suspicion by the police and later false and baseless charges were leveled against them.”

If the PP would not have been remained absent from his duty then most of the cases would have been settled by the courts and the youth would have been released.”
