JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday appointed senior lawyer of J&K High Court Reyaz Ahmad Jan as the new Advocate General of the state.
The Cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, approved the appointment of advocate Reyaz Ahmad Jan as the Advocate General of Jammu & Kashmir State, an official spokesman said here.
Jan has been designated as senior advocate with effect from March 28, 2012 in J&K High Court.
State Education Minister and PDP spokesman Naeem Akhtar said the government decided to have an Advocate General.
“The cabinet has decided to appoint Riyaz Ahmed Jan as the advocate general of the state,” he said.
Omar Abdullah government had appointed Ishaq Qadri as the Advocate General of the state in 2009.
He had recently resigned but asked to continue till further orders from the government.
