SRINAGAR: Namdhari XI defeated J&K 11 by nine goals to book their place in the quarter finals of All India Police Martyrs Hockey Memorial Tournament-2015 at KK Hakhu Hockey stadium Jammu.
With a lead of four goals in first half of the game, Namdhari XI took heavily onto the opposition and scored five more goals to finish with the final tally of nine while J&K 11 fayed to open their account.
Inderpal Singh of Namdhari XI was declared Man of the Match for his brilliant performance. He scored two goals, one in 5th and the other in 15th minute of the game.
In another matches, New Gurdaspur club outplayed Dogra XI 6-4. Both the teams scored two goals each till the end of the second round. The fate of the game was decided by penalty shoot out during which Dogra XI was able to net the ball twice while Gurdaspur converted four of its chances to accelerate to 6-4 and win slot in the quarter finals.
Charanjeet Singh, the goal keeper of Gurdaspur club was man of the match. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs 3,000 by the chief guest Joginder Koul, IGP IRP Jammu.
The third match of the day was won by Corps of Signal defeating CISF 4-1. Joshan Paul of signals was awarded SNTPL Man of the Match for his outstanding display of the talent during the match.
In quarter finals of the tournament being played tomorrow BSF will take on Air Force, Punjab and Sindh Bank will face Namdhari XI, J&K Police will lock horns with New Gurdaspur Club while Punjab Police will clash with Core of Signals to qualify for semi finals.
