Srinagar: Students of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar demonstrated on Tuesday against Health Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh, who had misbehaved with a few doctors and paramedical staff at SMHS Hospital on Monday.
The students demanded an apology from Singh and said they will go on a strike and boycott classes if he does not apologise to the insulted doctors.
“The minister should also assure that he will behave properly with the medical fraternity,” secretary of GMC’s Cultural Academic and Social Sports (CASS) Choudhary Muzaffar said.
“The minister thinks that being powerful he can do anything. But we want to remind that this callous behavior will not be tolerated,” he added.
When told that the minister had defended himself saying he wanted to discipline the functioning of doctors and medical employees, Muzaffar said, “It is the medical staff and the doctors who made hospitals functional post floods. Where was the administration then?”
Adil Ahmed, a member of the union, said, “They need to discipline themselves first than attempt disciplining others.”
The CASS is holding a meeting Wednesday to discuss “future course of action”, president CASS Bilal Ahmed Lone told Kashmir Reader.
