Srinagar: The J&K High Court on Monday issued notice to Secretary to Government Law Department for making arrangement for appearance of counsel for arguing a criminal acquittal appeal involving Abdul Rashid Wani and others.
A division bench of Justices Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Ali Mohammad Magrey observed that on November 13, state counsel assured the Court that the arguments would be addressed on next date. “Even Superintendent, Central Jail, Srinagar has not filed the report as directed by the Court,” the bench said.
Subsequently, it directed the registry to issue notice to the Secretary Law Department for making arrangement for appearance of counsel and arguing the case.
“The issuance of direction become imperative as the (Wani) is in custody for about eight years,” the court said.
Meanwhile, the court also directed its registry to inform the Superintendent, Central Jail, Srinagar to file report. “He (shall) be also informed that in default, he shall appear in person before the Court on next date of hearing,” the court said and posted the case during the week commencing from March 23.
