DDC calls for increasing Sgr horticulture area

SRINAGAR: To increase the area under horticulture , District Development Commissioner Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone has asked the Chief Horticulture Officer, Srinagar to formulate a scheme on the pattern of “Kitchen garden” for the households in district Srinagar having minimum 1-2 marla of land which can be used for plantation of fruit trees of different varieties.
DDC Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone who on Friday conducted a meet with the officials here said that he would be visiting Theed and Dhara to have interaction with cherry growers to ascertain their problem with regard to inadequate irrigation facilities
DDC was informed that there are 7000 hectares of land under fruits crop cultivation in district Srinagar. During the current financial year, under RKVY four Bower Systems have been installed and 30 tools/implements kits have been provided to the farmers along with14 foot pumps under State sector were provided to the progressive farmers.
