Car-lifters’ gang busted in Sopore

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has busted a gang of car lifters by arresting five persons in north Kashmir’s Sopore town.
A police spokesman said that police also recovered three cars and four motorcycles from the possession of the arrested persons.
He said that police, since last couple of months, received many complaints of vehicular thefts from the area. “After registering the cases, a plan was put into action and surveillance was increased in and around the Sopore town.”
He said that during the process of investigation surveillance and checking at different Naka points were set up. “We intercepted a Maruti car on Friday and while searching the vehicle, two tape recorders, two tyres of a Santro car, a ruler (Scale) and a cutter were recovered from the vehicle.”
“Two persons Khawaja Waheed Ahmad Mir son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir and Farhat Bashir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, residents of Ladoora Rafiabad were taken into custody.”
The spokesman said that during investigation it was found that they were involved in many other theft cases and names of three of their associates Bilal Ahmad Ganei son of Mohammad Munawar, Bilal Ahmad Ganei son of Abdul Khaliq and Hilal Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Qadir, all residents of Ladoora Rafiabad surfaced.
“Two Santro Cars, one Wagn-R car, four motorcycles, eight tape recorders, two car speakers, two Bass Tubes, two car tyres, six ECM plates, four gas cylinders, one Exide battery, three jack and two side mirrors of motorcycle were recovered on their discloser.”
He said that further investigation was going on in the case.
