SRINAGAR: The field executives of Legal Metrology Department Srinagar under the supervision of senior officers conducted surprise inspection of different markets of Srinagar city and seized a number of hardware products from dealers that did not adhering to the mandatory declarations of price, quantity and address.
The officials served legal notice to eight Punjab and Delhi based firms, with three firms have confessed the short comings on their products and have assured the department that future supply of their products shall carry all the mandatory declarations as envisaged in the Legal Metrology laws.
This action according to officials was prompted after public complaints that most hardware and paint goods offered for retail sale by the traders in the Valley do not carry the mandatory declarations such as price, net quantity, complete address with phone number.
These firms include Angel Impex Delhi, Amarson Enterprise Amritsar, Isher Paints Amritsar applied for composition and a penal sum of Rs. 29,000/- was collected from the erring firms while the challan cases against other firms shall be instituted in the court of law if the application for compounding is not received.
Moreover, the retail dealers of the valley have been directed to offer for sale only standard products carrying all the mandatory declarations on the label. Sticker for MRP or other statutory declarations is not allowed under the relevant laws.
The hardware and Paint Firms have been asked that all the declarations must be printed. Rubber stamps for marking the declarations are illegal under the law. Consumers are asked to contact the department on phone No 0194-2310753 to register their complaints.
