Baramulla: Residents from several villages of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Wednesday held protests against the Power Development Department (PDD) for erratic power supply to these areas.
Reports said that hundreds of residents from Manzgam, Aadora and Namblan villages took to the streets this morning and held a protest demonstration in front of the PDD office in Baramulla.
The protesters from Manzgam village said that the transformer in their village was lying defunct since past two years. “The transformer was damaged in fire two years ago but hasn’t been repaired since then. We have been requesting a new transformer since then, however, the PDD officials are demanding bribe to install a fresh transformer,” a protestor, Mohammad Sajid Khan said.
The protestors said that the PDD hasn’t even picked up the damaged transformer from their village. “Today we brought the transformer here and handed it over to the PDD,” they said.
Meanwhile, the residents of Aadora and Namblan villages also staged a protest demonstration outside the PDD office in Baramulla.
The villagers alleged the PDD of erratic power supply to their areas. “ The PDD has completely ignored. Frequent power cuts have made our life miserable during these harsh winter conditions,” they protestors said.
“We pay our electricity bills regularly, however, the power supply always disturbed,” they said.
