Srinagar: Police on Monday achieved a breakthrough in the Saida Kadal hit-and -run case by arresting the main accused who had rammed his car into another vehicle killing a woman and her nephew besides injuring her son.
Naseema, 55, wife of Abdul Gani Shah of Dooru, Sopore was killed and her son Amir Gani, an MSc IT student and nephew Ehtisaam, a BA final year student, were injured when their Alto car (JKO5B 7027) was hit by another vehicle Honda City (DL3CY 1607) coming from the wrong direction on Friday last. The three youth in the Honda car, witnesses had said, were under the influence of liquor when they caused the accident that also left one of the accused identified as Dawood Ahmad Bhat injured.
While Amir is recuperating at the bone and joint hospital his cousin Ehtisaam passed away at the SK institute of medical sciences, Soura on Sunday.
Police arrested Mudasir Nazir Bhat alias Umm Chaya of Aloochi Bagh, the main accused in the case, who was driving the car on the wrong side, a senior police official told Kashmir Reader. However, another accused, whose name could not be ascertained, is still at large. Another accused Dawood Ahmad Bhat, who had suffered hip fracture in the head on collision is currently being treated at the bone and joint hospital.
Chaya had borrowed the car from one of his friend Umar Nabi Wani of Saderbal.
“Mudasir has been arrested by police. He admitted of negligent driving that caused the deaths,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Hazratbal, Rayees Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the main accused had a criminal past and police was gathering the details about his activities.
