DFP, JKSM pay tribute to victims of Zakoora, Batamaloo massacres

Srinagar: Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and JK Salvation Movement on Sunday paid tributes to victims of 1991 massacre at Zakura and Batamaloo.
Over 50 people were gunned down by the army in the two separate massacres on March 1, 1991.
In a statement, DFP chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah said that Kashmiris will never forget sacrifices given by the people for the movement.
“We will continue the sacred mission for which these people laid down their lives.” He also prayed for the victims.
Salvation Movement spokesman said that on March 1, 1990, the troops opened fire on innocent civilians at Zakura area in city outskirts, killing 11 people on the spot.
“Killing of innocent civilians was a move aimed to stop people from pursuing their struggle for the right to self determination. In similar incidents, innocents Kashmiris were killed at several others places including Gaw Kadal, Hawal, Kupwara and Sopore,” the spokesman said in a statement.
