Samba asked to revive Calico printing

Srinagar: The artisans in Samba district of Jammu region shall revive the Calico printing, Director Handicrafts Tariq Hussain Ganie said Saturday.
He was speaking at an awareness camp organized in Katli village of the district to create awareness about activities and schemes of the Handicrafts department, a press release issued here said.
“The artisans shall revive the Calico printing craft as samba is famous as Chita-wala Sehar. The artisans shall concentrate mainly on Calico printing and Bamboo works as both crafts are famous in the district,” he was quoted as saying.
He also gave detailed information about various schemes of the department, the release said.
The camp, organised by the district’s Assistant Director Handicrafts, was attended by the artisans, trainees, members of various cooperative societies, sarpanch and panches participated in the camp, it said.
Assistant Director Pawan Kotwal said unemployed youth can get self-employment by establishing their own handicrafts units by forming Industrial Cooperative Societies after getting training in handicrafts training centres, it said.
“He also made people aware about various the department’s various schemes such as Artisan Credit Card (ACC), Micro Credit Plan (MCP) and Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY),” it said.
