Srinagar: Senior Congress leader and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who seeks re-election to Rajya Sabha, has declared his personal movable assets worth Rs 1 crore, a twofold increase in last nine months.
The former Union Health Minister, as per his latest affidavit, also has immovable assets worth Rs 75 lakh. In the sworn-statement for Lok Sabha elections held in May last year the assets were shown as worth Rs 70 lakh. Azad had declared personal assets worth about Rs 58 lakh and that of his wife Shamima Azad worth Rs 1.5 crore and daughter Rs 16 lakh.
This time, Azad, who was last year declared ‘best ever Health Minister’ by a Delhi-based news channel following a survey, has declared total movable assets, together with wife and daughter, worth Rs 2.63 crore.
Azad also owns around 20 kanals of agriculture land in Maharashtra. His wife, whose profession is ‘social service’ as per the affidavit, has immovable property worth Rs 1.22 crore.
As per the income tax returns, Azad’s total income was Rs 8.9 lakh in 2013-14. His wife’s and daughter’s income was Rs 7.35 lakh and Rs 1.18 lakh respectively, according to the IT details of 2012-13.
In 2009, Azad had declared movable assets worth about Rs 20 lakh (cash in hand Rs 15000), deposit in banks and other financial institutions Rs 16.8 lakh (SBI), Rs 3.13 lakh (JKB).
Meanwhile, National Conference leader Nasir Aslam Wani has declared movable assets worth about Rs 23 lakh, his wife has Rs 35.6 lakh and two dependents together have property valued Rs 9.52 lakh. Aslam, who as per income tax returns has total income of Rs 4.48 lakh for 2013-14, also possesses immovable assets worth Rs 5.22 crore. Wani, a graduate in Commerce, has shown personal liabilities in the form of loan for Rs 37.5 lakh and that of his wife Rs 12.15 lakh.
Sajjad Kichloo, another National Conference leader who is contesting the Rajya Sabha election and likely to come second like his colleague Wani, has declared movable assets worth Rs 71 lakh, wife Rs 32.37 lakh and that of dependent valued Rs 12098.
In Assembly polls, the movable assets declared by the former MoS Home, were Rs 8593765, wife Rs 3498653 and dependent Rs 7964. A 12-class pass out, Kichloo’s income as per IT returns was Rs 1285917 for 2013-14.
Mir Mohammad Fayaz, PDP’s Rajya Sabha candidate, who lost recent Assembly election from Kupwara with a narrow margin, has declared movable assets worth Rs 13.80 lakh, spouse Rs 6.80.
A businessman with a qualification of 10+2, Mir had declared movable assets worth Rs 18.70 lakh and wife Rs 7.30 lakh in his affidavit filed in the Assembly polls.
Another PDP Rajya Sabha candidate, Nazir Ahmad Laway, has declared movable assets worth Rs 10 lakh against Rs 9 lakh shown in the affidavit filed in the Assembly elections.
BJP candidate Janak Singh has declared movable assets worth Rs 4,01,679, wife Rs 21,51,000 and two dependents Rs 728000. An agriculturist by profession, Singh has immovable assets worth Rs 4.46 cr and wife Rs 2.5 cr, according to the affidavit.
Another BJP candidate, Chander Mohan Sharma has declared movable assets valued Rs 7,50,799 including 12 tolas of gold. Sharma’s wife and lone dependent have movable assets worth Rs 30,32,264 and Rs 84,000 respectively, according to the affidavit filed by him.
