Shopian: Illegal constructions are going on the Rambiara rivulet here in this south Kashmir district.
As per reports, the district administration paved way for illegal construction as it constructed many structures on the rivulet. “Government is responsible for destruction of Rambiara as it constructed the District Police Lines, new District commissioner’s office, Army Good Will school, the office of Forest department and also sanctioned playgrounds and private buildings on the rivulet,” locals told Kashmir Reader.
Aaqib Gull, a resident of Trenz area said that after the administration allowed construction on the rivulet, many locals in the area have illegally occupied land and have constructed houses on it.
“Initially, government constructed the building and playgrounds on the rivulet at NadiGund,Trenz and Chittragam, later people started building houses on it,” he added.
Another resident from Pehlipora, Sayeed Mohammad said that in past few years the locals have illegally occupied the land over the rivulet and have turned it into apple orchids.
“Ironically, people claim ownership of land which is in the middle of the rivulet,” he added.
When contacted, deputy commissioner Shopian Bashir Ahmad Bhat said that checking illegal construction on the rivulet wasn’t in his work domain. “I have nothing to do with these constructions. Moreover, for constructing a government building, no department needs permission from the district administration,” he added.
