Wife’s death will haunt me always: Liyaqat

Srinagar: Two days after National Investigative Agency (NIA) gave clean chit to him over the terror blasts allegations levelled by Delhi Police, Liyaqat Ahmad Shah of Lolab, Monday said that the death of his wife during his detention will haunt him till end.
“My wife died when she heard of my arrest by Delhi Police. It was very painful when I heard about her tragic death. I could not even speak to her for the last time,” Liyaqat told Kashmir Reader Monday.
Liyaqat’s wife Naseema Bibi had died of heart attack in Manshera, Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK) a fortinight after her husband was arrested from Gorakhpur on charges of planning militant attack in Indian capital. Naseema was also Liyaqat’s cousin sister, whose father had migrated to PaK soon after India and Pakistan fought war over Kashmir in 1948. Liyaqat had married Naseema in 1997, and has a son Syed Hassan Muneer Shah, now14.
Liyaqat said that the separation from his son was further compounding his pain. He said he was deeply worried about his son, and wants him to come over to Kashmir to stay with rest of the family.
“I cannot even imagine what my son would have gone through when his mother died. This thought is giving me sleelpess nights,” Liyaqat said, adding “I have paid a heavy price for returning home. Now, I want the government to allow me to get my son home,”
Liyaqat said his arrest has also taken a toll on her mother Bibi Alif Noor’s health and has left her physically weak.
“After my father’s death around six years ago, I was hoping to spend some good time with my mother. However, my arrest has left her in a very bad shape,” he said.
Besides Naseema, Liyaqat has two more wives-Amina and Akhter-ul-Nisa. From Amina, his first wife, Liyaqat has two children Shabir and Saddam. Liyaqat married Akhter in 2006 and from her he has a teenage daughter Jabeena.
Akhter had travelled to Pakistan on a passport in 2001, six years after her first husband died in an encounter in 1995. Her teenage daughter Jabeena was born from her first husband.
According to police, Liyaqat’s first wife Ameena Bano had filed documents under the rehabilitation scheme for her husband on February, 5, 2011 under form No 74.
