Tourism stakeholders to fly free to New Delhi, Mumbai

SRINAGAR: To promote J&K tourism at a time when the state’s economy is reeling under the aftereffects of the devastating September floods, the government will facilitate the stakeholders’ participation in the upcoming events in New Delhi and Mumbai.
An official handout issued here Sunday said the “travel and trade fraternity of J&K” will be provided free air travel by the tourism department for participation in SATTE, being held in New Delhi from January 29 to 31, and OTM, which will be held in Mumbai from February 4 to 6.
The decision, it said, was taken in a meeting of the Trade Fraternity of Jammu held under Director Tourism Jammu, R K Varma, to chalk out the modalities for participation in the events.
The meeting was attended by many officers of Tourism department and the representatives of tour and travel fraternity, it said.
“After deliberations to overcome the affects of devastating floods in Kashmir and border firing in Jammu region, it was decided that the tourism department will sponsor travel and trade fraternity of J&K by providing them free air travel to the said venues,” it said, adding that the move was taken to help the fraternity “have direct interaction with the travel and trade organisations of other states and countries in order to promote tourism of the state.”
