Jammu: The BJP is contemplating to nominate a Muslim former police officer credited with creating the dreaded Special Task Force for Rajya Sabha in a move to provide equal representation to two major communities in the state, Kashmir Reader has learnt.
The RS polls are slated for next month, but political parties in the state appear unprepared, partly because of the deadlock over government formation that has made permutations that define the outcome difficult.
“A senior police officer who joined the BJP’s last year will be the party candidate. While a senior BJP leader and a former BJP state president will be another nominee,” sources told Kashmir Reader.
The ‘senior police officer’ sources talked about is Farooq Khan, a former inspector general of police, credited with founding the STF, the dreaded counterinsurgency force.
“The party can’t ignore Muslim community especially in the state as the fractured mandate has made us realise,” said a BJP leader.
