Baramulla: Officials of Municipal Council Baramulla (MCB) Wednesday carried out an anti-encroachment drive against the vendors occupying the footpaths in the town.
Reports said that after receiving dozens of complaints from general public, a team of MCB visited the Park road, Tashqand Chowk, Main Chowk, and DC office road and seized a truck load of goods from different shopkeepers and the roadside vendors.
Though some persons tried to disturb the proceedings, the police accompanying the MCB officials chased them away, eyewitnesses said.
ADDC Baramulla Ravindar Kumar while talking to media persons said that they received dozens of complaints from the students and other pedestrians that most of the shopkeepers illegally occupied the footpaths and roads at various places.
“We seized large quantity of goods today. Stern action will be taken against those shopkeepers who will indulge in such illegal activity in future,” he added.
However, eyewitnesses said, some shopkeepers again occupied the footpaths as soon as the MCB officials left the market.
Meanwhile, the general public has hailed the move.
