SRINAGAR: A bore well was Wednesday handed over to local Auqaf Committee at village Qazigund, Kakapora in District Pulwama for boosting irrigational facility.
Director Agriculture Kashmir Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad handed over well constructed at a cost of about Rs. 30 lakhs to Auqaf Committee who will maintain and run the project for irrigation purposes.
According to the official handout the well has been constructed with community participation, with locals donating land worth Rs. 13 lakhs for the purpose and over 17 Lakhs having been spent by the department on the construction of the work under centrally sponsored scheme RKVY.
The well with its discharge of about 3500 gallons, per hour will provide irrigation facility to about 40 hectares of vegetable area, which the department is already developing under National Vegetable Initiative for Urban Cluster (VIUC) Scheme.
Talking to farmers Director urged them to use whatever infrastructure and technological guidance, the department is providing them for enhancing the production of vegetable which being a cash crop can ameliorate their economic condition.
On this occasion Director Finance, Agriculture Production Department, Mohammad Rafiq Hakeem, Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama and other senior level officers including Engineers of the Department were present.
