SRINAGAR: Various government departments jointly organised a daylong Employment Fair at New Theed Harwan here on Monday.
An official handout issued here said the event was organised by District Employment and Counseling Centre here in collaboration with Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, and Rural Sanitation departments. District Development Commissioner here Farooq Ahmad Shah inaugurated the Fair, it said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah asked the youth to utilize facilities available for the educated, unemployed youth through various schemes sponsored by the state or New Delhi, it said.
“Srinagar district is rich in natural resources, which shall be utilized to the optimum for improving the socioeconomic condition of the people,” he was quoted as saying.
He said sericulture, pisciculture, agriculture and horticulture have a tremendous potential which shall be exploited for the betterment of the people, it said, adding that he also advised the unemployed, educated youth to “set up their own income-generating units rather than seeking government jobs.”
SDM Srinagar East Dr Syed Abid also spoke on the occasion and “highlighted the avenues for the educated, unemployed youth available in agriculture and horticulture sectors,” the statement said.
“It was informed that the District Employment and Counselling Centre here has registered 453 self employment cases, 1000 general registration and four self help groups after floods in the district,” it said.
