PDP leaders playing politics over shifting of hospital: SKCS

ANANTNAG: A local NGO, South Kashmir Civil Society (SKCS), accused some leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday of playing politics over shifting of maternity and child hospital (MCH) from Sherbagh to old district hospital building, Janglat Mandi.
A delegation of SKCS members told Kashmir Reader that some PDP leaders are creating hurdles in shifting of the hospital as their workers have shops in Sherbag locality.
“Despite former Health minister and top officials of the Health department giving their consent for shifting of the hospital from congested Sherbagh to Janglat Mandi, some PDP leaders are creating hurdles in the same. To benefit their few cohorts they want to make the people of south Kashmir suffer,” said SKCS member Bashir Indrabi.
He said the decision to shift the hospital had been taken many years ago by the health authorities on the request of the people of the district. “The authorities had assured us that the shifting will be done only after the completion 300 bedded new building block for district hospital. We have taken up the issue with deputy commissioner and have asked him to ensure the shifting of hospital within three days,” Indrabi said.
Spokesman of the SKCS, Rao Farman, said the people of south Kashmir were waiting eagerly for shifting of the hospital to Janglat Mandi. “It is irony that for our politicians, the business of their workers is more important than health care,” Rao said.
