SRINAGAR: Kashmir Pashmina Karigar Union (KPKU) on Sunday has welcomed the move for creation of Pashmina Wool bank and procurement of Raw and dehaired Pashmina from All Changthang Pashmina Growers Co-operative Society (ACPGC), Leh by SICOP.
In statement issued by the union, a meeting of 20 representatives of union from various localities unanimously hailed move. The statement added that role of officials particularly Kurshid Ahmad Ganai, FC (I&C),Director Handicrafts, M.D SICOP was pivotal signing of this MoU between SICOP and ACPGC and creation of Pashmina Wool bank.
The Unions statement added that steps will surely help restore of livelihood over a lakh Pashm women spinners of the valley. The move will also help revival of genuine hand spin/hand woven Pashmina product.
The Union said that, craft could be saved if the authorities pace up implementation of an act “Reservation of Articles on Pashmina Traditional Handloom”, almost similar to one with requisite modifications is passed and enacted in J&K and an ordinance, pending legislation.
Talking to Kashmir Reader Union President Rouf Ahamd Qureshi said that the once this act is in force, it would help in safeguarding no only the interests of the artisans, but would end the menace of fake and inferior pashmina shawls.
He said that the weavers and artisans look forward implementation of the act for revival of our dying heritage.
