KHA demands reopening of VRC

Srinagar: Scores of members of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) Sunday held protest demonstration demanding re-opening of Vocational Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at Gogji Bagh here.
The protestors said that the center was meant to provide skill development training to physically challenged persons. “But after the September 2014 floods, it is lying defunct and no efforts were being made to re-open it,” the protestors said.
President of the association Abdul Rashid Bhat told Kashmir Reader that the administration was neglecting this centre. “The center is closed since these floods and many of the handicapped people have been left in lurch,” he said.
He said the government has failed to implement any scheme and supplementary funds for the handicapped persons of the valley.
“We are apprehensive that this centre will be closed as government is making no effort to make it functional,” he said.
He threatened to move court if their demands were not met by the authorities.
