Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Sunday welcomed the statement of Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s regarding Kashmir.
Gen Sharif while speaking at the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London on Saturday stressed for better relations with India and urged that negotiations between the two countries over Kashmir must be made on an equal basis.
“The statement is realistic and made at an appropriate time,” a Hurriyat spokesman said.
“The time has come when the India and Pakistan should start sincere efforts towards the permanent resolution of the Kashmir dispute so that the lasting peace and harmony is restored in the region,” he said.
While expressing concern over the revelation of General Raheel that “India is not showing any positive reaction towards the peace initiatives of the Pakistan government”, the spokesman said that “provocative statements by Indian side were worsening the situation.”
“The present stand of the Pakistan government and the Pakistan army regarding the Kashmir issue is highly encouraging for the subjugated people of Kashmir,” he added.
