Tailor’s detention triggers protest in Kupwara

Baramulla: A tailor from Drugmulla was on Friday night picked up by a posse of men wearing police and army uniforms. His arrest triggered a protest demonstration on Saturday.
Bashir Ahmad Baba, 46, a resident of Drugmulla Kupwara, who owns a tailoring shop at Dar Gali, Kupwara, was picked up the armed men at around 10 pm.
His relatives said that they went to the nearest police station and army camp to inquire whether they had apprehended Baba, but officials at both these places denied having information regarding him.
The relatives and local people took to streets on Saturday and demonstrated against what they said “the kidnapping of Baba” and “inaction” of the police.
The protesters also blocked the Srinagar Kupwara road near Drugmulla for hours.
Deputy inspector general of police (north Kashmir) Ghulam Hassan Bhat said Bhat was in  police custody but refused to comment on why he has been detained.
