Government’s decision to purchase pashmina hailed

SRINAGAR: The senior Vice President of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Mushtaq Ahmad Wani Saturday thanked the Financial Commissioner Industries and Commerce Khurshid Ahmad Ganai for “safeguarding” the interests of the pashmina growers in the state.
“He safeguarded the interest of the pashmina growers of Ladakh and the weavers and artisans of Kashmir through the MoU signed between the SICOP and the All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative Society (ACPGCS), Leh for procurement of  raw Pashmina,” he said in a press statement issued here.
In order boost to Pashmina trade in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (SICOP) Friday entered into the Memorandum of Understanding with (ACPGCS).
Under the MoU, SICOP will purchase raw pashmina from (ACPGCS) and sell it to the artisans.
Wani said KCCI has earlier taken up with Ganai the issue of sale of pashmina, which the Leh administration had planned to sell open bidding at New Delhi.
