SRINAGAR: Oil and gas conservation fortnight commenced Friday in Jammu region of the state.
An official handout issued here said a function was organised by Oil Industry and Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) in which the Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Jammu, G S Chib, flagged off the publicity van.
“This year’s slogan is ‘Indhan Bachao-Jan Dhan Bachao’ and the aim of observing the fortnight is to create awareness among the people for conservation of oil and gas,” it said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib emphasized on the need to save energy for a secure future, it said.
“Observing the fortnight symbolised the efforts of the government to promote saving of the hydrocarbon related energy resources, which are non-renewable in nature,” he was quoted as saying.
He said that women folk, especially housewives, have to play a “pivotal role” in conserving and preserving domestic fuel and electricity, the handout said.
State Level Coordinator of the Oil Industry in Jammu and Kashmir, Girish Ranjan, elaborated the salient features of the programme, it said.
“The main objective of celebrating fortnight is to create awareness about fuel saving tips in various fields dependent on oil and gas including transport, industries, agricultural and household sectors,” he said, according to the handout.
