Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation commissioner Dr G N Qasba Friday directed all the concerned officials to improve upon sanitation and intensify the anti-encroachment drive in the city.
In a statement, Dr Qasba while chairing a meeting of SMC official here said directed the chief sanitation officer to provide timely equipments and tools to the sanitation staff so that “the smooth sanitation work is ensured on time.”
“No encroachments should be seen in the city and all the shopkeepers and street vendors must be to be warned through public addressing system to refrain from encroaching footpaths and roadside spaces for the free flow of traffic and pedestrians movement ” said Dr Qasba .
He further added that all the goods and displayed items outside the shops and road side spaces shall be seized without serving any notice next time.
He emphasized that all the ward officers including the enforcement wing shall keep a tight vigil and submit timely report on illegal constructions.
“No such officer shall be shielded in any case if his involvement is proven in backing any illegal construction within Municipal limits which shall follow with an appropriate action against him under law,” he added.
He also directed ward officers to conduct inspections and identify the areas having issues related to silting and choking of drains.
“Report it so that same is reported to the drainage wing for de-silting and cleaning of drains in a time bound manner,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by Joint Commissioner ( Adm)Bashir Ahmed , S.E Drainage, Chief Accounts Officer, Chief Enforcement Officer, Chief Sanitation Officer and other senior Municipal Officers.
