Baramulla: The residents of Delina in this north Kashmir district Thursday protested to demand supply of free rice to the flood-affected families.
Shouting slogans, the residents marched to the Srinagar-Baramulla highway to stage the protest. They blocked the highway.
The protesters alleged that the department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) was not providing them free rice.
“The revenue department prepared a list of flood-affected families in our village, but we are yet to get even a kilogram of free rice,” Khursheed Ahmad, a protester, told Kashmir Reader.
The protesters appealed the District Development Commissioner (DDC) to look into the matter.
The protest concluded after the concerned Tehsildar, Nazir Ahmad, arrived at the spot, assuring protesters of help.
However, a senior officer of CAPD department told Kashmir Reader that rice was being provided to the affected families free of cost.
