Baramulla: Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganie was Wednesday elected President of the Traders Federation Sopore town of this north Kashmir district for the second consecutive term.
He took oath in a function organised by the traders in Sanctorium College of Education at Lalad Sopore in presence of the Deputy Commissioner Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
About 1711 traders cast their votes for Ganie and three other candidates including A R Changal, Mohammad Ismail Khuroo, and Javaid Ahmad.
Ganie got 647 votes while Changal, Khuroo, and Ahmad got 388, 372, and 296 votes, respectively.
Taking to Kashmir Reader, Ganie said, “I will work for the traders of Sopore and the others who are associated with our federation. It is a great honour for me that traders elected me for the second time.”
“Sopore has been facing a lot of problems. The town has a lot of pollution, bus stand is in a bad shape, and the bypass bridge has been under construction for several decades. I will put pressure on the government to get this problems resolved,” he said.
