Jammu: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA-elect Syed Altaf Bukhari Wednesday appealed governor N N Vohra to expedite the compensation to the flood-hit people of the valley.
In a statement, Bukhari who called upon the governor at Raj Bhavan apprised him about the hardships faced by flood-affected families during the harsh winter. “
Demanding liberal compensation to the victims, Bukhari said, “The ex-gratia amount so far disbursed to the flood affected families does not commensurate with the actual losses suffered by the flood victims.”
He stressed on an immediate need for the disbursement of full compensatory amounts to the flood-hit families corresponding to the losses caused to their houses and other properties.
He also advocated for a review of previous government’s decision of supplying 100 cft timber to the flood victims.
Bukhari also demanded that the farmers associated with the horticulture and agriculture sectors who suffered extensive damages due to devastating floods in September be compensated without any delay. Similarly, the MLA Elect also raised the issues of flood shattered business community of Srinagar pleading for full compensation for their damaged shops and the stocks.
The statement said that governor assured that he will review the rehabilitation work very soon and act accordingly.
