Protests against PDD over labourer’s electrocution

Baramulla: The residents of Arampora, Singpora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Tuesday held a protest against the Power Development PDD after a need-based labourer was electrocuted while repairing a high-tension wire.
Eyewitness said that Mohammad Yaseen Khanday son of Gulam Mohammad Khanday of Armpora Pattan, a labourer with PDD died on spot when he came in contact with an HT wire in Mathipora village.
The residents alleged that the officials stationed at the nearby receiving station switched on the electricity while the labourer was repairing the wire.
They said that the body of the labourer was brought down by the locals as he it remained hanging of the wire for some time.
Soon after the incident, eyewitnesses said, people from native village of the labourer, took into the streets and staged a massive protest against the department.
They blocked the Srinagar -Muzafarabad road near Singpora bridge for some time, eyewitnesses said.
The protestors shouting anti PDD slogans demanded immediate action against the officials for alleged negligence.
Later, police reached the spot and assured the protesters of swift action into the case. A case has been registered against PDD, Station House Officer Pattan (SHO) Mohammad Saleem. Despite repeated attempts, no PDD official was available for comment.
