‘Settlement of Pak refugees meant to alter demography’

Srinagar: Muslim Deeni Mahaz chief Dr Qasim Faktoo Thursday appealed pro-freedom groups, religious organizations and intellectuals of the state to resist Government of India’s proposed move to give permanent resident status to the migrants of West Pakistan.
In a statement, Faktoo termed the decision as “a dangerous step taken to convert JK into Mulsim minority state.”
He alleged that the decision was taken to “alter the demography of the state.” “India has been doing this since 1947. Through massacres an d forced migration Muslim population in Jammu was brought down from 61 percent to 31 percent,” a spokesman quoted the incarcerated leader as saying in a statement.
“ From 1947 to 2012, 5 lakh non state subjects have been settled in the state as permanent residents, most of them being are brought from North India ,” he alleged.
He said that the recent decision to settle the Hindu migrants from West Pakistan and Pakistan administered Kashmir “clearly indicates their expansionist plans regarding the state.”
“The Indian government wants to cleanse Muslims from J and K as was done by Christians and Jews in Andulas (Spain) and Palestine. Indian rulers are just obsessed with the land of the state,” he alleged.
He said that the expected increase in the population of Muslims here has not happened. “On the contrary it is decreasing visibly. India had planned to settle non state subjects right from 1947 but couldn’t do so then due to different reasons. RSS JK in charge Prof Balraj Madhok had even chalked out a plan for this settlement,” he added.
“The recent decision is indicating that the Indian rulers are trying to change the Muslim majority status of the state. The settlement of the migrants here might have some Logic but who will decide whether the people being settled are really the migrants PaK?,” he questioned .
