Sikh delegation meets Shah

SRINAGAR: A Sikh delegation Wednesday called upon Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah at his party headquarters at Sanatnagar.
In a statement, a spokesman said that during the meeting Shah extended his support to the Sikh leaders who were struggling against the violation of rights of political prisoners at various Indian jails.
“We fully support the Punjab movement and the demands of its leaders. We hope that the justice loving people and leaders across the globe play their role in releasing the innocent prisoners languishing in jails across India,” the spokesman quoted Shah as saying.
Shah assured the delegation that his party will extend every possible support to Sikh Movement. “I can understand the pain of prisoners as jail has always been my second home,” he said.
He praised Garbaksh Singh’s struggle against “unjustified detention of innocents”. “His movement is genuine and justified. We fully support the demands of Garbaksh Singh and his associates who are on hunger strike. There are hundreds of political prisoners who despite completing their jail term, continue to languish in jails,” he said.
He castigated the government over the continuous detention of pro-freedom leaders including Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Masrat Alam Bhat, Dr Qasim Faktoo, Dr Shafi Shariati, Muhammad Ayoub Dar, Muhammad Ayoub Mir and hundreds of other political prisoners. “These prisoners are not even allowed to fulfill their judicial formalities and their every right is violated in jails,” he said.
