SRINAGAR: Huriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is organizing a seminar titled “UN resolutions and Kash¬mir’s right to self determi¬nation,” on January 5, 2014, Monday at 11 am at its Head¬quarters Rajbagh.
The Hurriyat spokesman said the seminar was being conducted to draw the atten¬tion of the world community towards the insensitivity and inaction of UN for not im¬plementing its resolutions passed on Kashmir despite the passage of 66 long years. The UN adopted the resolu¬tions on Kashmir on Janu¬ary 5, 1949.
The seminar, scheduled to be conducted at Hurriyat headquarters, would be con¬vened by Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Eminent hur¬riyat leaders and general public would also participate in the event.
Terming the callousness and inaction of UN towards solving the Kashmir issue as an intentional effort to over¬look the sufferings of Kash¬miris, Mirwaiz said that global community should realize that Kashmir has be¬come a nuclear flash point which could anytime explode and lead to devastation of South Asia.
“On the eve of completion of 66 years since UN adopted resolutions and recognized Kashmir as a disputed ter¬ritory,” he said, stressing upon UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon and other glob¬al leadership that it is due to lingering Kashmir dis¬pute that two nuclear armed countries, India and Paki¬stan, have fought several wars and the war like situa¬tion persists in South Asia. He said due to escalation of tensions on LoC, innocent Kashmiris were becoming victims of violence on both side of the disputed line.
Meanwhile, Dar-ul-Khair, a charity organization head¬ed by the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has set up a free medical camp at Hazratbal in Srinagar on the auspicious occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
