SRINAGAR: The Tourism Studies department of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tourism department of the state.
The MoU was signed between the officiating Vice-Chancellor of CUK, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir, and Talat Parvez, Director of the Tourism department.
The MoU was signed with the objective of nurturing more industry-academic collaboration in terms of research, consultancy, internship and capacity building programmes.
“There is a growing interdependence between academic institutions and the industry keeping in view the growth, progress and developmental pace of the country, and consequently urgency is felt to tailor the curriculum to the ultimate requirements the industry,” Prof Mehraj said.
He expected that the MoU will see both the institutions collaborating actively in “mutually agreeable academic events, workshops, conferences, teaching, training, research and development.”
CUK’s Registrar Professor M Afzal Zargar appreciated the initiative, saying, “The job-oriented curriculum will be given a preference to enhance the employability of students.”
“The university is in the process of making mutually benefitting and logically effective MoUs with many other organizations in future,” he said.
Prof S Fayaz, Head of the Tourism Studies department, emphasized the need of the tie-ups with industry.
He said: “The MoU will help the University and Tourism department to explore new trends and commence new projects helpful for the academic and industry sector.”
