Elections in Kashmir futile exercise: Akali (M)

Srinagar: “Elections in Kashmir are a futile exercise and the resolution to the dispute should be found in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris.”
This was stated Sunday by Shiromani Akali Dal (M) leader Simranjit Singh Mann after meeting Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at the latter’s residence here.
Supporting the policy of Hurriyat (M) on Kashmir issue, the SAD (M) delegates said, “The so-called elections in Kashmir were a futile process and solution to Kashmir dispute should be found taking into accordance with the emotions and aspirations of Kashmiris,” according to a Hurriyat statement.
Lauding the effort of Mirwaiz and Dar-ul-Khair towards providing relief and rehabilitation to flood-affected victims, the SAD team said that the steps taken by Hurriyat (M) chairman towards constructing houses for the victims was “revolutionary”.
The spokesman said that Akali delegates also donated blankets, rice and other essentials towards Darul Khair for the people affected due to floods.
Mirwaiz while thanking the Sikh brethren for their help and supporting the Kashmir cause, said, “Election in Kashmir is a futile and useless exercise. Kashmir dispute is a living reality since 1947. The sham elections could not change the disputed status of Kashmir.”
