64 crorepatis in fray for phase 3

Srinagar: In the phase-III of the five-phase Assembly poll, the documents submitted by the contesting candidates reveal that 64 out of the 138 nominees are crorepatis, and nine of them have criminal charges against them, including six with serious offences.
With 14 of its 16 candidates crorepatis, People’s Democratic Party tops the list, followed by nine crorepatis from the NC-Cong coalition.
Health minister and Congress candidate from Uri seat Taj Mohiuddin has declared assets worth Rs 19 crore, while National Conference candidate from Sangrama Haji Mohammad Yaqoob Wani has assets worth Rs 16 crore. Twenty-four of the rich candidates have not submitted PAN details in their documents.
Haseeb Drabu, who is debuting as PDP candidate from Rajpora seat, has filed Income Tax Return for the year 2014-15, while more than 100 candidates have not filed their returns.
Two Congress candidates—Bashir Ahmad Khan from Khansahib and Ghulam Mohammad Yatoo from Pampore—have declared on affidavit that they have no assets.

2 NC candidates have criminal charges
The offences include attempt to outrage modesty of a woman, robbery and attempt to murder. National Conference has two candidates with serious criminal charges, followed by one each in Congress, BJP and JK Democratic Party (Nationalist). An independent candidate has a case against him, while no PDP candidate has any criminal charge against him.

Salman Soz has liability above Rs 2 cr
Five candidates have declared liabilities above Rs 1 crore. Among them, Shoaib Nabi Lone has liability of more than Rs 5 crore, followed by Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Salman Anees Soz with liabilities above Rs 2 crore each.

14 candidates retired employees
Thirty-nine candidates have declared themselves as businessmen, 33 are full-time political workers, 14 retired employees, 15 lawyers and 12 agriculture workers.

2 illiterates in fray
Out of 138, two candidates are illiterate, 68 have declared themselves as class 12 pass or below and 67 candidates are graduates and above.

All-male contest
There are no women candidates in the fray for the third phase of the polls.
