SRINAGAR: The Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar Wednesday directed all district police heads to mention cases of unlawful use of cigarettes and tobacco products in the monthly crime review.
“Incorporate cigarettes and other tobaccos products in the (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA) violations in the monthly crime review,” an official handout issued here said quoting the order issued last week.
It said the DGP has asked all district heads to collate the instances of violations and to forward the details on monthly basis to the concerned Superintendents of Police.
The officers are asked to include the cases as “agenda items” in the monthly crime review meetings held at the district level, it said.
The order has come into force with immediate, it added.
Till October 2014, the state police had fined 521 people across the state for violating COTPA and collected an amount of Rs 46,100 from them, the handout said.
