Srinagar: The Kashmir University Wednesday inaugurated 3-day debate tourney “War of the Words” – modelled on the Indian parliamentary format.
A spokesman of the KU said that round 26 teams from different schools, colleges and universities are participating in 3-day debate competition organised by the Department of Students Welfare in association with ‘Pace Productions’, Srinagar.
The inaugural day saw 12 debating competitions on various subjects in different venues of KU. Spokesman said, “12 out of 24 teams qualified for the second round which will be held tomorrow in Ibn-khadun auditorium.”
Earlier Dean Students Welfare, Prof Neelofar Khan while inaugurating the function said, “Parliamentary format of debating is first of its kind in Kashmir and I hope it will serve as a platform for the youth of Valley to showcase their debating skills.”
Chief Proctor of KU Prof Naseer Iqbal said, “The youth of Kashmir are talented and need just the right kind of exposure to channelize their energies in proper direction.”
The three-day event is sponsored by JK Bank, SBI, Aircel, Mirza Sons, Mango salon, Xperia cellular world and J&K Now, spokesman said.
