SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference chair¬man Syed Ali Geelani Mon¬day said former Indian prime minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee had reneged on his promise of resolving the Kashmir issue within the ambit of humanity.
“Vajpayee spoke of resolv¬ing the Kashmir issue within the ambit of humanity (in¬saniyat ke dayire main) dur¬ing his visit to Kashmir. But he did nothing of that sort as humanity demanded that In¬dia withdraw its seven lakh strong troops from Kashmir and take stock of the massive human rights violations com¬mitted against Kashmiris since 1947,” he said.
“Therefore, we want to ask the present Indian prime min¬ister Narendara Modi what is so special about Vajpayee’s Kashmir policy that he wants to emulate?” Geelani asked while referring to Modi’s speech in Jammu wherein he had promised to to fulfil Vaj¬payee’s ‘dream’ of “democracy, humanity and Kashmiriyat” in Jammu and Kashmir.
Geelani also lashed out at PDP leader Muzafar Beigh for his “false claims that PDP and Hurriyat leaders were fol¬lowing the same policy.”
