Er Rashid slams PDP for ‘doublespeak’ on Afzal hanging

Srinagar: Awami Ittihaad Party president and MLA, Langate, Engineer Rashid, while campaigning for the AIP candidate from Bandipora constituency Advocate Nazir Malik and Advocate Sheikh Sajad AIP candidate from Sopore constituency on Sunday accused Peoples Democratic Party of adopting political hypocrisy.
While referring to the recent statement of PDP patron Mufti Sayeed that PDP can save state from divisive forces, Rashid stated that same PDP uses “great adjectives for BJP at Delhi”.
“When Afzal Guru was hanged, history is witness to their criminal silence. When I tabled a resolution to save Afzal Guru, the PDP hid themselves like ostrich hides in the sand. Mufti Sayeed’s statement in Bandipora that they tried to save Afzal Guru is absolute political bankruptcy as he did not utter a single word in the Assembly to save Afzal. All the three parties NC, PDP and Congress share equal blame for hanging of Afzal Guru and are the sides of the same coin.
“PDP has since long adopted sheer political hypocrisy and doublespeak in its polity which has deeply hurt genuine interests of people of Kashmir,” Rashid said.
Rashid also condemned senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azadi for saying that the party ended militancy in Kashmir. “By fielding renegade in the form of Usman Majid from Bandipora, the Congress has shown their true colours,” he said.
