Cable TV channel sealed in Kathua

Jammu: District administration Kathua on Sunday sealed an illegal cable television channel, M/S City News Channel, for violation of the Cable Television (Regulation) Act 1995, Cable TV Rules 1994, Cinematography Act 1952 and Copyright Act, apart from violation of directions issued by Election Commission of India.
The sealing order was issued by District Magistrate Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary after reports furnished by Additional District Magistrate Kathua, Returning Officer 65-Kathua Assembly Segment and Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.
On perusal of the record presented by these authorities, examining the replies filed by cable operator during the opportunity of being heard granted on a series of occasions, evidences presented and records made available the District Magistrate issued directions for sealing of premises and seizing equipment, according to an official spokesman.
In a 10-page sealing order the cable operator has been directed to obtain necessary permission from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for telecasting local / own programmes in consonance with Programme Code and Advertisement Code.
A team led by Tehsildar Kathua and SHO Kathua assisted by flying squads sealed the office of M/S City News Channel and also seized the equipment used for transmitting illegal programmes in violation of Acts and Rules, the spokesman added.
