NIT official fined for smoking on campus

Srinagar: The anti-tobacco squad Saturday said that three persons including  the assistant registrar of National Institute Technology, Srinagar were caught smoking on  the campus.
In a statement a spokesman of ATS said that during an inspection of NIT Srinagar, headed by food safety officer Srinagar Shabir Ahmad Lone three persons were caught smoking in the campus. They include AR (audit) NIT Mohammad Muzaffar, storekeeper Bashir Ahmad and a security person. A fine was impounded on the offenders, he said.
He said section 4 of the cigarettes and other tobacco products Act 2003 prohibits smoking in all public places and section 6(b) of the COTPA prohibits the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards from the outer fence of the educational institute.
