Malik, Khan among 90 candidates file nominations

BARMULLA: The president Fruit Mandi Sopore Fayaz Ahmad Malik Friday submitted nomination papers as an independent candidate for Rafiabad assembly constituency in this north Kashmir district.
Talking to reporters after filing the papers, he said he was forced to contest the polls as the politicians have been ignoring the constituency for the last 40 years.
“They ignored every sector like horticulture, agriculture, and education. The people of Rafiabad want change and they forced me to join politics for the overall development of constituency,” he said.
Later on, he visited the different villages in the constituency.
Malik, who enjoys the support of the fruit growers from north Kashmir, would contest against Abdul Gani Vakeel of Congress, Javid Ahmad Dar of National Conference, and Yawar Ahmad Mir of Peoples Democratic Party.
The Kashmir Development Front’s candidate for Baramulla constituency Mohammad Anwar Khan also filed the nominations.
“I am sure that youths of Baramulla will support me and my party because they were ignored by all parties and leaders from decades. Our motive is to generate employment for the unemployed youths,” he told reporters.
According to the officials, a total of 90 candidates of various parties have so far filed nominations for the seven assembly constituencies in the district.
Prominent among them are Salman Anees Soz and Taj Mohiudin of Congress, and Mohammad Shafi Uri of NC.
