Ramban: BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday said the coming elections in J&K were crucial “as far as the complete integration of the state with rest of the country is concerned, and only a BJP government can make it happen.”
Addressing an election rally here, Shah said, “We want complete integration of the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country and the people of the state will have to help us in realising this dream.”
Lashing out at the two leading political dynasties of Kashmir, Abdullahs and Muftis, he charged them with ruining the state and looting the public money.
Shah said that Jammu and Kashmir has been receiving “more funds than any other state” for the development, but all that money was “looted by the Abdullahs and the Muftis.”
“In many states of the country, there is 24 hour electricity and even the remotest areas are well connected. But people in Jammu and Kashmir still crave for electricity and drinking water. You please tell me what happened to the money provided to the state,” the BJP president said.
“It is a fact that Centre has been pumping in huge sums of money for the development of this state…More than any other state in the country. But still this state lacks in terms of development,” he said.
“Where has all the money gone? Did they take it along to London when he (Farooq Abdullah) goes there to spend summer? If an enquiry is conducted into this I assure you that this would emerge as the biggest scam of the country. The day is not far when we will hold an inquiry into this,” he said.
He vowed that if BJP is voted to power in the state, the government will hold an inquiry against those embezzling the money meant for developmental activities in the state.
Whatever development has taken place in the state, Shah said, it happened when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.
Shah said that if the BJP is voted to power in J&K, it will develop the state “on the lines of Goa and Gujarat. I was worried about the response of the people here but now seeing the crowd here I am confident of our success in our mission 44 plus. I assure you after forming the government Jammu and Kashmir will be developed on the lines of Gujarat and Goa.”
Shah also said the BJP will put an end to the problem of unemployment in the state. “Jobs in both government and private sector are your right which you have been deprived of so far. But I promise you that BJP government will put end to this problem on priority,” he said.
Reacting to the statement of Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad that BJP is polarizing votes in the Valley, Shah said, “We don’t polarize votes but polarization takes place. Muslims in both Kashmir and Jammu regions are welcoming BJP with open hearts but Azad cannot see it.”
Shah did not make any comment on Article 370 which accords ‘special status’ to J&K under the Indian constitution and his party says will be abrogated.—With additional inputs from PTI
